Okay, last time, I promise!
Paypal has eased off of their eBook restrictions. According to their latest blog post, they will be focusing on specific titles that violate the US Legal Standard for Obscenity as defined by the Miller test, rather than a whole subset of fiction. Smashwords‘ announcement can be read here.
Don’t get me wrong, I am glad that PayPal wanted to be proactive in the prevention of the spread of child pornography, and the profiting from it. Anyone who stands up and makes the effort to put a stop to that evil practice is a hero indeed. It’s just that you cannot throw such an all-inclusive dragnet out there and then proceed to blindly punish anyone and anything that gets caught in it. No one truly wins that way.
